BELOW ARE SOME FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
WHAT IS ULTRASOUND IMAGING?
Ultrasound technology uses high frequency sound waves. The waves bounce off the tissue and return to the ultrasound machine at different frequencies, depending on the density of the tissue. Our ultrasound machine is a highly specialized computer (just like you would find at the doctors office) that translates the returning sound waves into images for viewing on the computer monitor. The machine at our 3D ultrasound location is a FDA approved 3D/4D/HD sonogram machine.
What is the difference between 2D, 3D, 4D and HD?
2D, 3D and 4D sonograms are trademarked terminology used in the industry to distinguish the different types of pictures and videos that can be provided.
2D ultrasounds are the traditional black & white ultrasounds that you have probably seen before. The pictures show the skeletal structure (outline) of the baby. You also get to see the baby moving in 2D! This is the type of ultrasound that was probably used for your diagnostic ultrasound. It is still the best technology for gathering measurements of the baby and ensuring that the baby is developing as expected. And most accurate way of determining gender.
3D ultrasound shows the tissue of the baby, which is more realistic baby pictures. We can see the roundness of the baby's face, the shape of the nose and the contours of the lips. The color is actually not the color of the baby, it is computer enhanced to make the pictures more appealing.
4D ultrasound shows the tissue of the baby as the baby is moving. This will provide moving clips of your baby in action! The 4D video clips of your baby are similar to the 3D pictures - but in motion! This is where you see your baby smile, stretch or yawn.
HD Ultrasound refers to high-resolution imaging that provides greater detail and clarity. It is achieved by using a larger number of pixels. High pixel count results in a sharper, less blurry picture.
WHAT TYPE OF TRAINING DO WE HAVE?
All our imaging technicians have been specially trained to do prenatal ultrasound imaging. We use state-of-the-art ultrasound equipment specifically calibrated for fetal imaging. All our imaging techs are trained in the specific fetal imaging methods, programs and applications required to get the best pictures and video possible. We have been open in Olathe since September of 2011, and previously operated Topeka 4D Ultrasound (closed due to Covid).
WHEN WILL I RECEIVE THE PICTURES AND DIGITAL VIDEO?
All your keepsake items will be available same day! Printed digital images and heartbeat animals go with you. Depending on the package you choose and what it provides, digital image and video links are emailed shortly after the session concludes. 8K is an option, it is emailed you soon after the session concludes!
WILL WE BE ABLE TO TELL IF THE BABY IS A GIRL OR A BOY?
We are happy to check gender, and this service is included in all of our packages with the exception of Meet Baby. We prefer to check gender after the baby reaches 15 weeks. Gender determination cannot be guaranteed since we must rely on the cooperation of the baby and several other factors outside our control. But, if you are into your 15th week and we can't tell the baby's gender, we will bring you back for free!
DO I NEED TO HAVE A FULL BLADDER?
No, a full bladder does not improve the ultrasound pictures. But, being well hydrated increases the transparency of the amniotic fluid. This greatly affects the clarity of the pictures and videos. It is recommended that you drink plenty of water at least 2 or 3 days before your appointment.
WILL MY INSURANCE PAY FOR THE APPOINTMENT?
No, elective ultrasounds are not covered by insurance.
CAN I BRING ANYONE WITH ME TO WATCH THE ULTRASOUND?
Absolutely. Our studio rooms are large enough to accommodate several family members and friends. Bring everyone and anyone you want! We have 3 screens in each room. We currently do not have any restrictions on how many guests you invite.
DO I NEED AN APPOINTMENT?
It is best to schedule to ensure availability. However, we do walk-ins if time permits!
